GM 32 Colorado Avalanche (1-1-0) @ Boston Bruins (1-0-0)
Semyon Varlamov has been a fantasy bust every year since his 41-14-6, 2.41 GAA, .927 Vezina finalist campaign in 2013-2014. This year he is making us look stupid so far by taking 30 starting goalies before him. Undrafted. The Avs jumped up 1-0 early and the first big moment in this game came late in the first while Boston was pressing on the powerplay. Carl Soderberg won a defensive zone faceoff and cruised by Boston's defenders like he was in a video game, on rookie difficulty, and set up J.T Compher for a back breaking shorthanded goal. Then Semyon took care of his business. 11 saves in the first, 11 in the second. Nail Yakupov notched two third period goals to seal an impressive 4-0 victory for Colorado. The Avalanche are on pace to surpass last year's points by Thanksgiving..
Fantasy spin- Sven Andrighetto netted the first goal of the game and his first point of the season. He later added an assist, but his role on the Avalanche should be recognized. 18:04, 17:40, 17:38 he is consistently seeing a lot of ice time. He was also on the PP for the entire 2 minutes. Whereas Nail Yakupov's two goals may be a fluke as he averages under 13 minutes of ice time, but he does like to shoot. Josh continues to benefit from missing the draft and snagging the only available starter as Varlamov scored him a 13.8pt shut out and now has 24.2pts through two starts. Boston may want to give Chris's Charlie McAvoy more PP time. In the opener he worked the PP to perfection and scored two points. With Torey Krug back in the lineup, McAvoy dropped to third on T.O.I and they stuck Krug out on the powerplay for FIVE:35 while McAvoy only saw 2:50. Krug was rusty and he made everyone around him rusty.
GM 33 St. Louis Blues (2-0-0) @ New York Islanders (1-1-0)
Rob Bortuzzo wanted a piece of the Islanders midway through the second as he cross-checked Cal Clutterbuck multiple times into the ice. Cal was my favorite when he was in Minnesota. He's so good at drawing penalties and pissing people off. He earned his team a four minute double minor that only cost him a little bit of blood. If any team can take penalties it's Mike Yeo's Blues. Last year they were the third best killers in the league. During the second half of the double minor a slashing penalty gave the Islanders a 2 man advantage for 90 seconds. St. Louis killed it off with ease and the Islanders moved to 0/9 on the PP this year as the Blues moved to 12-14 on the PK. Mike Yeo was hyping up the troops on the bench after the PK and on Tarasenko's next shift he embarrassed the Islanders with a spinorama backhand from the faceoff circle where his fellow countryman likes to score from. He added another goal later in the second, showing the Islanders how to convert a PP. That seemed to be enough. Allen shut down the first 23 shots he saw and took a 2-0 lead into the third. Andrew Ladd slipped one by Allen through heavy traffic and then Anders Lee pushed a game tying goal across with Greiss sitting on the bench in the last minute. In overtime the Islanders went back on the powerplay and guess what? 0/10 on the PP. Blues win 3-2 in the shootout.
Fantasy spin- Jake Allen continued to look fantastic for Austin with an 11pt win. Ladd and Lee notched their first goals of the year for Chris and Calista. Jordan Eberle got me one more assist in his final day on my team. Greiss looked much better in his second outing, scoring 5.8 in this lost. 6 points better than he provided Calista last time out. Leading skater was Vlad Tarasenko, scoring me 8.5 pts. Alex Pietrangelo now has 17.5pts on the year for Todd and is, at the moment, the top scoring d-man. Jaden Schwartz got Austin his 5th point of the season and added 6 minutes to his normal T.O.I logging 23 minutes. Have to wonder how if he will be relied on as much once Alexander Steen returns.
GM 34 New Jersey Devils (1-0-0) @ Buffalo Sabres (0-1-1)
Five minutes into the second period Evander Kane put home a powerplay goal to cut into the 2-0 Devils lead, and the Buffalo Sabres were soon right back on the PP. Adam Henrique led a 2 on 1 odd man rush on which he sauced a pass over the sprawled out d-man and 6th round 2016 draft pick Jesper Bratt had a silky finish. That was the first of two second period goals, both on the receiving end of great passes. Taylor Hall set Bratt up with a solid slap pass after he also set up newly acquired Marcus Johansson. New Jersey cruised into 6-2 victory.
Fantasy spin- Marcus Johansson (Jon) and Jesper Bratt (free agent) scored two goals. Taylor Hall looked to be the best skater on the ice tonight and scored Josh two assists. Jimmy Hayes logged 18:58 of ice time on the top line with Hall and Henrique. Not sure if that will be a permenant fixture. The oddest thing in NJ right now is how they have no d-man logging more than 20 minutes of ice time. For Buffalo, Evander Kane seems to be trying to make up for a streak of underwhelming seasons all at once as he has been brilliant so far this year, on a less than brilliant team. 7.5pts more points for 23.5 through 3 games for Michael and 24 shots on goal. Robin Lehner had a 20 minute shutout after relieving Chad Johnson. 7.6 pts for Schneider in another win for Austin.
GM 35 Chicago Blackhawks (2-0-0) @ Toronto Maple Leafs (2-0-0)
With both teams tied for the most goals in this early season, 15 goals each through just two games made this a game I couldn't miss. I would have given the advantage to Chicago since Toronto has allowed 7 goals through two games and Chicago only let in 2 goals, but that was with Corey Crawford in net. Anton Forsberg gets his first start of the season, 11th in his career and to put it nicely...He has sucked. So this game had the build for a 10-15 goal night, combined. Potentially a Stanley Cup preview 8 months out. Chicago outshot Toronto 9-6 in the first period and took a 2-0 lead into break. From that point on it was domination by Toronto, but wasn't showing on the scoreboard. They outshot Chicago 19-6, but only Nikita Zaitsev found a way by Anton Forsberg. Richard Panik scored a PPG to go up 3-1, but Toronto's attack was relentless and the came all the way back and sent the game to OT where Auston Matthews finished the comeback.
Fantasy spin- Free agent d-man Jan Ruuta had a goal and an assist to give him 4 points in the first three games. Panik was the only other multi point getter for Chicago as his goal and assist scored Calista 8 pts. Kevin's move to put Forsberg in from the free agency scored him 4.8pts as he looked fantastic in net, 39 saves. The two multipoint scorers for Toronto was Nikita Zaitsev (5.5 Ross) and Connor Brown (6 Kevin) and Kevin took the goalie win as long as the loss as he scored 5.8 with Freddie Anderson's shakey win.

GM 37 Winnipeg Jets (0-2-0) @ Edmonton Oilers (1-1-0)
